Let’s Weekend!
November 22 to 24, 2024
Celebrate the Re-Opening of Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine: Amsterdam Ave. at 112th Street; Tickets $25; follow the link here for dates and times.
Take advantage of cutting-edge augmented reality to learn about Notre Dame’s 850-year history, right on West 112th Street. Great for history nerds, art lovers, and tech enthusiasts, this exhibition includes photo panels, 3-D models of Notre Dame and an interactive touch-screen tablet called a HistoPad that allows visitors to step back in time to medieval Paris and meet stonemasons, craftsmen, and builders. Users can watch Notre Dame’s Gothic Choir being constructed in 1880, the arrival of the Holy Crown carried by Saint Louis in 1241, the coronation of Emperor Napoleon I, and more. Finally, see Notre Dame’s miraculous survival from the 2019 fire that shocked the world.
Learn about Riverside Park’s Ralph Ellison Memorial: Sunday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m., the Library at American Academy of Arts & Letters, 633 West 155th Street; Free
The Brooklyn Museum is currently hosting the first major retrospective of artist Elizabeth Catlett’s career. But you can see her only public commission right in Riverside Park. That work, the 15-foot-high Ralph Ellison Memorial, “Invisible Man,” stands in the park near where Ellison and his wife Fanny lived around West 145th Street. Harlem historian John T. Reddick will join Catlett scholar Dalils Scruggs, the project’s landscape architect, Ken Smith, and Catlett’s son, Francisco Mora, Jr. for a discussion about the work and how it engages with the local community.
God’s Love We Deliver 4-Mile Run in Central Park: Sunday, November 24th at 8:00 a.m.; Central Park (finish line near the 72nd Street transverse)
It’s too late to register to run it, but you can enjoy a beautiful morning in Central Park while supporting the runners who are helping raise awareness and funds for New Yorkers living with illness. My daughter and I will be running this as our annual turkey trot for the 3rd time this Sunday, which will be the 31st running of the “Race to Deliver.” God’s Love We Deliver is a nonprofit organization that cooks and home delivers nutritious, medically tailored meals for people too sick to shop or cook for themselves. With the help of thousands of volunteers, God’s Love delivered more than 3.3 million meals to nearly 11,000 individuals last year – all for free.
