For the third year in a row, New York City will be closing off dozens of streets to cars throughout the five boroughs on Halloween night, including on the Upper West Side and in Morningside Heights.

Dubbed “Trick-or-Streets,” the street closures are aimed at helping children enjoy the holiday by trick-or-treating with more freedom from building to building. There will be a variety of Halloween-related activities for the whole family on each “Trick-or-Street.”

“With more children expected out on our streets for Halloween, Trick-or-Streets provides a safe way for families to enjoy the holiday and connect with their neighbors,” said NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, in a news release. “Trick-or-Streets is just one example of the ways we’re reimagining our streets for people through our Open Streets program.”

There are multiple streets in our neighborhood taking part in the program on Thursday night. Here’s where.

West 69th Street from Broadway to Central Park West

  • Time of Closure: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Partner: West 69th Street Block Association

West 78th Street from Amsterdam to Columbus

  • 4 to 9 p.m.
  • Partner: West 78th Street Block Association

West 90th Street from Columbus to Central Park West

  • 4:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Partner: West 90th Street Park Block Association

West 114th Street from Broadway to Amsterdam

  • 6 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Partner: West 116th Street Block Association

Thanks for providing this info WSR!

Wonder why W 69th street is only closed off for two hours, it is usually a madhouse with a ton of families attending.

Maybe it was meant to curtail the madhouse of it all. I passed by this weekend and the street seems more subdued than previous years.

Agree about it being pretty subdued-I went this Sunday w/my favorite 7 yr old and we were pretty disappointed w/the decorations-West 95th St had a much better display. 😉

Agree…that can’t be right? It is the biggest and oldest of those street fairs.

I would imagine W. 87th from RSD to WEA is closed off as well since they have a huge trick or treating event 10/31
