Two people were shot on the Upper West Side on Tuesday night, a police spokesperson told West Side Rag.

A 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were shot in front of 248 West 62nd Street, near West End Avenue, around 8 p.m., police said. The older man was shot in the left hand, and the 18-year-old was shot in the right leg, NYPD added.

Both people were taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The NYPD spokesperson said multiple people were observed fleeing the scene on bikes going southbound on West End Avenue.

There have been no arrests as of Wednesday morning and it is unclear what led to the shooting, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing, NYPD added.

I hope they are OK. I wonder if they know the person/people who shot them. Hopefully the shooters are caught and punished and not just given a slap on the wrist.

I hope the victims are OK.

They were taken up to 116th Mt. Sinai Morningside (St. Luke’s) instead of nearby to 60th St Mt. Sinai West (Roosevelt) because Mt. Sinai Morningside is a Level II trauma center?

St. Luke’s is better equipped for shootings, and other injuries that can/could penetrate the torso.

In there words, a higher grade trauma center.

But sure, Alvin Bragg. Crime is down. Every day someone is getting shot, pushed, stabbed. NYC was like this in the 1970s. This is just awful.

It’s not remotely like the 70s.

And crime statistics are collected and released by the NYPD and by the FBI – not by the District Attorney.

The situation isn’t great but let’s keep our heads, August was the safest August in 30 years.

I’m not saying that the current rate of crime is acceptable, but “down” doesn’t mean “gone.” That will never happen.

This account leaves out that the bike the assailants fled on was an e-City bike. These e-bikes are the best at fleeing a crime quickly going up to 30-35mph.
Faster than the car speed limit.
We need more law enforcement for all egregious e-bike riding. Now the crime statistics with e-bikes as the getaway vehicle are going up everyday.
Is there a mayor in office who can get a hold on this?

“Quick Summary:

Electric CitiBikes can go up to speeds of around 20 mph (32 km/h) which depends on the rider’s pedaling strength and the terrain.”

this from a website about electric pedal assist bicycles:

https://myracingbike.com/how-fast-do-electric-citi-bikes-go/

Truth will prevail.

Ok, max is 15mph

Lets assume person on bike is 130lbs on average.

Add bike weight of at least 70lbs.

A 200lb object coming at you unexpected at 15mpg is about the equivalent of being blindsided by a football player in the NFL.

It is going to do a heck of alot of damage to the stationary object (aka pedestrian)

Point being whether 15mph or 20 mph.

Someones life is changed forever.

A girl on a Lyftbike zipped by me on the Broadway sidewalk under a construction shed just an hour ago.

She thought she was doing me a favor by ringing the bell. Lyft is gonna get sued.

Scarlett, crime is so low it makes the news when it happens. If you think this is worse than the 70s you were not in NYC in the 70s.

I have lived at Lincoln Center since 1986. Shootings in the area are extremely rare but occasionally are a spillover from Amsterdam Houses. I hope the perps are caught soon and severely punished. If not, the City better not wait until a tourist is shot here before they crack down on criminals. The gun situation in America is out of control and so is the notion of settling scores with gun violence, and the disregard for bystanders on the streets. Time to rescind bail reform and all the other pathetic soft on crime legislation in NYS.

Please stop with the “ crime is down”. Murders are down. Robberies are way up. And look at Central Park crime – YTD—-Rape has doubled. Felony assault is up. Robbery is up more than double. Murders are same ( 0)
Look at the actual COMPSTAT data from individual precincts. And keep in mind thar many crimes are NOT reported. the majority of hit and runs bt mopeds and e bikes arent reported. Yes – that is a crime. 90% go unreported because rider almost always flees.
Please understand that “ crime is down” is NOT true.

So depressing. Is there no way to make perpetrators fear consequences?

I moved to UWS in the 90s. It was safe and beautiful I do not care to compare current crime situation to the 70s. I don’t know why some people insist on it.

There were no shootings back then till approximately 4-5 years ago. So please stop with this “crime is down” nonsense.

violent crime in NYC is way down from the 90s.. I assume that is also true for the UWS.

i lived here in the 70’s as a young girl: there was crime .. and there were other scary things happening: The difference i see- is the aggression, If you tell a e-bike or biker to get off the sidewalk; they say it’s not illegal for them to be in it.. Then they start up again at fast speeds. Who is getting paid here: why e-bikes? No accountability .. I notice this summer is worse in the aggression! It’s has evolved to be “no consequences for behavior means they can do whatever they want .. What’s up with the bike lobby: when you mention the safety of pedestrians and children who walk to school: they have nothing to say accept they want more paths! Are they crazy. You can not give more of anything UNTIL you get what is going on UNDER CONTROL… STOP with E-BIKES. I noticed in the UWS RAG when they wrote about extending E-BIKES in the park— Citi bike went out and stacked their street bikes with lots more E-BIKES. You don’t even have the ones under control that ste out there— they go fast, they are on sidewalks and now in cross walks and if you say something they threaten you, ignore you, or laugh at you and then SPEED up !!! Are we not tired of this dangerous program.. I was in the village today — could not get across the street — the same in the park— having cops stand there looking at their phones does not help—- Bikers don’t see them!!’n They need their big arse cop vehicles there ! What happened to the sign that was at the crossing on 72 from East to west .. It’s dangerous … I am taking videos of the foul language and the refusal to get off the sidewalks … I was at the pier this past weekend! All they care about is more bike paths: when the city gets the mess we already have under control before thinking about taking any more space for bikes who already are on sidewalks.. and they don’t walk the bikes in the crosswalks either .. Uou have to look behind you !!!! to see if one is going to hit you from behind in a cross walk… What a mess! I have never seen such a dangerous city .. Let’s not forget that you legalized pot without a plan in the city .. All over the park, all over the streets .. all over even sitting in outside cafes and some inside the bars… Did anyone not think of having a plan?? maybe look at the country of amsterdam .. cause it’s appalling in the city .. and brings a ton of people to the area to buy their pot .. This city has no plan for anything .. It’s out of control ! period ..
