Expect a whole lot of security around 72nd Street and Broadway this weekend.
The New York Democratic political world is descending on the Upper West Side’s Verdi Square on Sunday for a rally to energize voters for this November’s election.
The Let’s Go Dems! rally will take place Sunday at 11 a.m. within the Verdi Square park between Broadway and Amsterdam on West 72nd and 73rd streets.
“It’s go time,” Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine wrote on social media about the rally. “We have 9 weeks to win this. For Harris-Waltz, for control of Congress, and more. Time to get on buses, knock on doors, work the phones.”
Levine is just one of the many, many elected officials who will be in attendance on Sunday.
Here are some of the others you can expect to see.
- Gov. Kathy Hochul
- Sen. Chuck Schumer
- Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand
- Rep. Jerry Nadler
- Rep. Adriano Espaillat
- Rep. Dan Goldman
- AG Letitia James
- Lt Gov. Antonio Delgado
- NY Comptroller Tom Dinapoli
In terms of Upper West Side elected officials who will be in attendance, Councilmembers Gale Brewer and Shaun Abreu, State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Assemblymembers Linda Rosenthal and Danny O’Donnell, and nominee for the Assembly Micah Lasher.
Here is the full list of elected officials participating in the rally.
The event is open to the public, and rally-goers should expect to hear speeches from many of the politicians.

Bet e-bike drivers will impede their access to Verdi Square.
But hey, if they use the IRT station, perhaps they can do something about the repeated slashings.
Glad they are coming to the UWS, I can’t wait to boo Gov. Hochul for her illegal pause of congestion pricing.
UWS Dad,
I am not a particular fan of Governor Hochul, but aren’t most people and most elected officials generally more than one thing?
Seems to me useful to consider the overall landscape, different POVs, different possibilities.
That is something my partner and I try to do as parents as well.
I am really having trouble parsing your point. Sure, Hochul has undoubtedly been better than Zeldin would have been, but ultimately she’s proven herself to be ineffective on issues I care most about (housing, transportation). She may be more than one thing but she’s also our elected representative (and doesn’t represent NJ drivers) so I intend to let her know where she is falling short.
Booing?
Ha I’ll be cheering her for pausing it!
Will Hochul be taking questions about her refusal to follow the law on congestion pricing?
I would like to see CP all of Manhattan not just south of 60th and raise it to 25 dollars.
James,
So you want to tax the middle class workers who work off hours and leave jobs late at night, or you want them to have 2+ hour commutes home at night. NOT questions.
Congestion pricing was always a favor to the very well paid, and big delivery services like Amazon, which causes a massive amount of congestion.
The answer is the commuter tax.
I would like to drop a line to let you know that I really appreciate West Side Rag posting stories like this so that we know these types of events happening in our neighborhood. A+ work. One question: will they have adequate public latrines for these events? The last time they held one of these things it was way under covered and people ended up waiting around the block and missing most of the event. And that was before the one latrine failed.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be stay well awake from the stink.
Are you refeering to the public latrines ?
Please decrease all the crime on the UWS. Please add police, cameras.
NYPD’s budget is massive, I’d prefer they focus on actually being effective with their policing. Adding more police does nothing if they all sit around in their cars browsing Facebook.
Each police officer could make 100 arrests/day, but if the DA doesn’t prosecute them, what’s the point? Also, police are told which crimes to concentrate on, that’s why they don’t go after e-bikes and scooters in bike lanes, etc. The police can’t prosecute or incarcerate criminals unfortunately. They can only arrest those who they are told to arrest, and ignore others.
While they are there they need to rethink their support of Adams and his giveaway to developers and billionaires called the City of Yes..
Gee, Neither Mayor Eric Adams nor any of his Deputy Mayors appear to have been invited. I wonder why?
This event sounds like a positive move to help make sure Trump loses.
The mayor isn’t participating?
I will never forgive Gillibrand for what she did to Al Franken.
My entire family has always voted Democrat.
But sad to say, on local issues, most of us are pretty cynical about local elected official Democrats, particularly the City Council, and have little faith.
These days, the City Council feels more GOP than Democrat as the City Council does what it wants, favors lobbying groups like the bike lobby and restaurant lobby, does not bother to canvass or even inform constituents about major changes such as land use which really impact daily life.
Beyond depressing.
