West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) is a nonprofit organization on a mission to alleviate hunger by ensuring that all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.
WSCAH will be rocking the block once again this spring on Sunday, May 19 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at their annual block party! ROCKS THE BLOCK allows participants to engage in a meaningful day where you can make an impact and gather with the WSCAH community. This year is particularly exciting as it will also be WSCAH’s 45th Birthday Party!
There will be activities for the entire family including packing meals for neighbors in need, writing cards to customers and elected officials, life-sized games, live music, and refreshments provided by local Upper West Side partners.
Here’s a brief look at last year’s event:
This year’s ROCKS THE BLOCK will also feature WSCAH’s Writing Against Hunger competition which invites young writers (ages 10 to 18) to share submissions on how food can strengthen ourselves and our communities. Winners and finalists will receive a gift bag filled with WSCAH swag, have their work published on wscah.org and possibly featured on Poetry X Hunger, reaching audiences across the country. Plus, winners will receive a gift card to a local business and the opportunity to perform their winning piece live on stage at ROCKS THE BLOCK 2024!
For more information on how to register to attend the event and guidelines for the writing contest, please visit wscah.org/rocktheblock.
Come out and join the fun on May 19!
