Upper West Side Councilmember Gale Brewer brought her customary stack of papers to the Met Gala.

The stars were out Monday night for the annual celebration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, hosted by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

The 2024 rendition of the event had a “The Garden of Time” theme and celebrities such as Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth were all there.

Among those stars was Jennifer Lopez, the Bronx native who provided eagle-eyed Manhattan viewers at home the moment of the night.

As Lopez posed with her Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, containing more than 2.5 million beads, Brewer was seen on the telecast moving quickly behind her.

“Wait! That’s Gale Brewer behind J Lo at the Met Gala. What the actual!!!” Upper East Sider Andrew Fine wrote on X.

Other people quickly took to social media to address the Brewer and Lopez crossover.

Sally Goldenberg, the Senior New York Editor for Politico, wrote — “Stack of papers in hand, of course.”

“Who is the woman in front of Gale Brewer at the MET Gala?” Upper West Sider Richard Robbins jokingly wrote.

The above photo was not the only time Brewer was photographed with Lopez, who wore an Art Deco-themed dress to the event.

Brewer also saw the fun in the image and took to social media to share her thoughts.

“Such a delight to see a former constituent at the Met Gala last night,” she wrote, referring to Lopez living on Central Park West for a period of time.

It is a common occurrence for New York elected officials to go to the Met Gala.

Council speaker Adrienne Adams was also in attendance this year, and Mayor Eric Adams, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Comptroller Brad Lander, Councilmember Keith Powers, and others all have gone in recent years.

Brewer was invited because the MET is in her district, which stretches through the entirety of Central Park.

It should be ” Gale Brewer photo bombs Jennifer Lopez”. That’s how photobombs work I’m pretty sure.

I don’t think you are right – Gale is an elected representative and J. Lo doesn’t hold any official position, so I’m pretty sure the headline is correct as written.

It’s 100 times funnier the other way – like Brewer was supposed to be front and center. 🙂 This was awesome, WSR!

Makes me ache for the Tiffany Blue Book Ball. Wish they’d bring it back. Gale, please work your magic!

Gale Brewer Photobombs JLo At The Met Gala.

There, I fixed it. The headline has it backwards!

It’s always the person in the background that is doing the photobombing, not the person who is the actual focus of the photo

Sheesh. I can’t help but to feel that people missing the humor aren’t actually from the neighborhood. At least that’s my hope.
