By Carol Tannenhauser

On Saturday morning, West Side Rag received the following alert from the NYPD:

“The New York City Police Department is asking the public’s assistance [in] identifying the [man] depicted in the attached media wanted in connection with a sexual abuse incident that occurred within the confines of the Central Park Precinct.”

On Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m., while riding a Razor scooter, the man allegedly approached a 30-year-old female jogger on West Drive in Central Park (around 68th Street), “from behind,” police said. “[He] got off the scooter, grabbed the victim’s waist from behind, and rubbed himself against [her]. The individual fled on the scooter northbound on West Drive, exiting the park onto West 72nd Street and Central Park West. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries as a result of this incident.”

The suspect is described as “a man approximately 20 to 25 years old, 6’0” tall, 165 pounds, with a dark complexion, brown eyes, and medium build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black-hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black-and-yellow sneakers. He was riding on a blue Razor scooter.

This incident is being investigated by the NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

All calls are strictly confidential.

It is good to have his photo both for our protection and for the possibility that shame will reduce the possibility of his repeating the offense.
I know this sounds like a dunce cap. Or sitting in those things from colonial times, in the center of the courtyard.
But if we know this is the guy, we also know that he enjoyed taking that risk.
The victim is the important person.

Phoebe, Do you REALLY believe that sexual predators are capable of shame? This guy does not give a damn what others think of him, he does not care about other people period. He will be arrested, released and offend again only more violently.

Unfortunately you’re probably right. I personally feel afraid every time I go out these days. People are assaulted as they walk down the street just minding their own business, not bothering anyone! I’ve lived in NYC all my life, on the upper Westside. I went out at night and came home late sometimes. I stayed aware of my surroundings and didn’t take chances and always got home ok. I won’t do that anymore. And I won’t get on the subway. I used to take it all the time, never again. The crime is out of control. Mayor Adams is the worst mayor in a long time! The migrant situation is insane! I voted for Adams; that won’t happen again!
I hope someone competent steps up and runs against him! Time for a woman mayor!

When the same people who primarily call for law and order want to vote for a sex offender for president, we certainly seem to be up the proverbial creek. That said, Adams is a sad case of I don’t know what.

You voted for a police officer to be Mayor, that was your first mistake.

I voted for Kathryn Garcia. She would have been great.

The camera is probably our best weapon: good for the jogger (I assume) who took these photos. I carry mine in my hand when I’m walking anyplace that isn’t well populated at the moment. But sad that women are in danger if they are walking alone anywhere these days.

I made a comment not published. In fact very few comments – amazing. I said it’s that time of year when warmer weather arrives and female runners are routinely harassed and assaulted by young men on bikes.
