The Riverside Park Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help with its annual Mulchfest on Saturday, January 6th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will meet at River Run Playground in Riverside Park (West 83rd Street), and can register here.

Every January, RPC staff, assisted by volunteers, turn discarded holiday trees into fragrant pine mulch which nourishes soil. Volunteers on Saturday will help to remove ornaments and lights from the trees, and work to get the trees ready to chip. The group will then spread mulch around street trees on Riverside Drive. Volunteers will be able to take home a bag of mulch.

Trees can be discarded at any Riverside Park entrance up until January 31st.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
