A 70-year-old Upper West Side woman sent a man scurrying after he climbed through her apartment window and tried to grab her belongings, police said on Tuesday.
Around 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, a man ascended the fire escape of a building on West 76th Street and Broadway, and pushed open a window, police said.
Once inside the apartment, the man attempted to grab a few items, but was confronted by the woman, police said. The intruder fled without taking anything, successfully escaping, the NYPD added.
Police released a photo Tuesday evening of the suspect.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

She was very fortunate. As terrible as a break-in was, at least he had the the heart not to harm her. Scary stuff.
Yeah, what a guy!
I really wonder if UWSers realize how insane a story like this is. This is a ‘safe’ neighborhood and on 76th street people pay millions of dollars to live. A person can just crawl into someones home and seek to rob them, presumably because there is no meaningful penalty if he gets caught.
I guarantee you this sort of thing does not happen in Korea, Norway, Japan, China, Austria…I could go on. You don’t deal with this sort of thing by asking nicely to stop. You have to have severe penalties for serious crimes. I am not sayin what exactly the punishment should be because UWS is a Progressive publication that will delete my comment, but all I know is that the penalty needs to be significant….otherwise enjoy more of the same.
I live on this block and I would show no mercy for anyone intruding into my home. Things will get much worse unfortunately because of this progressive ideology…
