Has the thought of learning an instrument been on your mind lately, but you don’t know where to start? Well, now is your opportunity to have a free 30-minute music lesson near you!

On Sunday, September 10th, the Smith School of Music will be hosting an open house where they are offering free trial lessons in guitar, piano, drums, voice, ukulele, bass, flute, and music production. You’ll also get a chance to tour the recently updated facilities and meet their fantastic teachers. No need to bring an instrument if you don’t have one yet. Sign up now, as slots fill up quickly!

The Smith School of Music, located at 131 West 86th St., opened in 2019 and quickly became an institution for the Upper West Side community. It is a place where students of all ages and abilities come to study an instrument of their choice with passionate professionals. Students range in age from 4 to 80+, and are at varying levels of expertise.

Founded by Damien Kelly, the Smith School of Music is an after school program that shares its premises with The Smith School, an alternative education middle and high school that offers small class sizes and personalized instruction. Damien, who has been the Music Department Head at the Smith School for the last eight years, wanted to expand the Music Department and open up the program to the greater community.

Whether you are looking to pursue a career in music or just want to pick up a new hobby, lessons are customized to meet all needs. Many Smith School of Music students have been accepted into performing arts schools in NYC, including LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and older students have gone on to study music at renowned colleges such as Berklee College of Music and UCLA.

The Smith School of Music offers one-on-one weekly lessons, as well as group guitar and ukulele classes. For more information and pricing, visit their website. See how the Smith School of Music can enhance your music education!
