For this special event on the eve of Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day), Ms. Furstenburg and Mr. Aboutboul take us behind the scenes as we spotlight the evolution and expansion of Israeli film and television. In conversation with Isaac Zablocki, senior director of the Carole Zabar Center for Film at the JCC Manhattan, they’ll explore how Israel’s dynamic film and TV productions affect audiences around the world to become Israel’s leading export. In every genre, these acclaimed films and TV shows alike feature inspiring stories, cinematic brilliance, and extraordinary performances. It is no wonder they are recognized as Israel’s iconic and beloved cultural works of art.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Born and raised in New York, Hani Furstenberg focused much of her acting career in Israel, where she is an award-winning actress in movies and TV. She moved with her family to Tel Aviv after studying at New York City’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art & Performing Arts. With many credits in Israeli productions, she has also performed on Broadway in the Roundabout Revival of Cabaret and on American TV screens in Law & Order: SVU and CSI.
Alon Aboutboul
Born in Kiryat Ata, Israel, Alon Aboutboul has starred in many Israeli movies, theater productions, and TV shows. Among the beloved actor’s many awards are Best Actor award at the Jerusalem Film Festival and the Film Actor of the Decade award at the Haifa International Film Festival. Often cast as the villain, his face is immediately recognizable to American audiences from The Dark Knight Rises, Body of Lies, and London Has Fallen and TV shows, FBI: International, Law & Order: SVU and Snowfall.
