In Show of Unity, CB 7 Meeting Breaks Out in Song

Recent Community Board 7 meetings have featured hotly contested debates over everything from safe havens and deliverista hubs to new bike lanes. But there was an entirely different tone at the surprise full board meeting held live last night, when Community Board members broke procedure by joining together in song.

Typically, the full board meeting consists of taking a final vote on each of the topics previously discussed by the sub-committees. However, in the transition between the Preservation Committee and Business & Consumer Issues, board members suddenly started singing “All You Need Is Love” – kind of like that wedding scene in the movie “Love Actually.”

Board members seemed to be pleasantly surprised, if slightly embarrassed, when they realized what they were doing. After finishing the song, they quickly finished the rest of the agenda without interruption.

“This is unprecedented. There’s nothing in the bylaws about singing or musical acts of any kind,” said one CB member. “For never having practiced before, I actually thought we harmonized pretty well.”

A recording of the song can be viewed here. Please click!!

You fooled me, all right, but I sure did enjoy the joke and have started to hum the imagined song myself. Thanks for the humor, you foules. It is too bad, however, that the scene is so far-fetched.
