By Carol Tannenhauser

Police released the identity of and charges against the 19-year-old man who shot a 17-year-old several times in the stomach on Tuesday morning, following an “physical altercation with several other males,” on West 68th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The alleged shooter is Cheick Coulibaly, address as yet unknown. He is charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

More details as they are released.

Coulibaly is a name etched into my brain, as it is the same last name of a terrorist in France. This sent shivers up my spine.

I don’t. It was just a matter-of-fact comment. The overtones would be all yours.

I find your comment racist for assuming they are of the same race. I’m more woke than you can possibly imagine.

Where would we be if w e “defunded” the police? Thank God for all their good work, locating so many criminals!

God allowed that kid to get shot, and defending the police wouldn’t have affected the response of this type of altercation. You’re ignorant on two fronts, congrats.

In what world does someone shoot another person and think that their life will simply go on unchanged. I am astonished at the stupidity of people.

At the point of confrontation – emotions take the best of you. The beauty of stop and frisk is that not only it works by taking away the guns, but also by making those who have them ( illegally ) think twice about carrying them ( before they get emotional and use them ).

And that whole “infringing on the constitutional rights of citizens” thing is just totally OK with you? I’ve guessing that you’ve never been subject to an illegal search.

There is no thought of consequences. Just mindless violence. And already out on bail (probably no-cash bail) for armed robbery. Great system we have here.

He was out on $50,000 bail, reported the Post. You could have looked that up yourself, so what is the point of baselessly speculating about what his bail “probably” was?

… Yes. ‘Great system we have here.”! Not! You can go anywhere else in the world and you’re not going to experience multiple shootings.
Insane. Why not ban guns. Get guns off the streets.
Figure out how to support those mindless/ senseless people who shoot others… and work out how to support them from an early age so that this violence can be controlled while they’re young and in need of social support..
There’s got to be a reason for this insanity in young people. …They shoot someone dead. They’re arrested and incarcerated. Their lives are as good as over. Don’t hate them/ help them to become socialized.

Thank you to the NYPD for another speedy arrest. Let’s hope , if found guilty, he won’t be back on the street harming anyone else for many years to come.

Hello everyone. One of the reasons the shooter was caught so quickly, on West End and 67th street, was because one of the Lincoln Towers unarmed security guards chased him and told the police that the shooter had just gotten into a taxi there. Did i mention that our security guard was unarmed?

One additional point of fact than no one has mentioned is that the shooting happened almost right in front of a Pre-K. This could have gone so much worse. I hope the District Attorney’s office takes that into consideration when they charge the shooter.

We get fantastic NYPD response in this neighborhood and thank you NYPD for that.
