Starting today, there will be a four-day donation drive for the asylum-seeking families who were recently bussed to New York City from the U.S. southern border by the governors of Texas and Arizona.

Some families are finding refuge at the Park West Hotel, on the Upper West Side.

Sponsored by Council Member Shaun Abreu, in partnership with Council Member Gale Brewer and Volunteers of America, the drive will take place this Thursday, 9/8, Friday, 9/9, Saturday, 9/10, & Sunday, 9/11 at the Bloomingdale School (PS 145), 150 West 105th Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues .

The times and details about what to donate are below.

*Gently used clothing is accepted.

Just to be clear – children’s clothing gently used is not eligible for donation?

Glad you asked because I was about to give four bags of clothes to the thrift store for them to sell, but this seemed like they were only accepting donations of new clothing for asylum seekers. Which is great, don’t get me wrong, but… didn’t make sense.
Thanks for the clarification

I have an almost new, clean down comforter and mattress pad, also mattress encasement, never exposed to moisture or bugs–will you accept?

The school is overwhelmed by the generosity of the community and is taking a short pause on accepting anything directly while they sort through items and get them distributed. In the meantime, Volunteers of America is equipped process more items. Stay tuned for updates from P.S. 145 in the near future. Thank you all!

Are there any additional drop off times? Perhaps next week at Councilmember Abreu’s office?

Will there be another drive soon? This one came up too quickly for me and I can’t get my plentiful stuff to the drop-off site…

How about monetary contributions, preferably online. Maybe through the PTA? I’d like to contribute for whatever’s needed.

HI – I wanted to bring things this afternoon (Friday) but am too late – I’m not free this weekend 10-12 on Saturday OR Sunday. Is there any way I could bring things yet today? It’s about 4 pm now.

Don’t have clothes or supplies to contribute. Are you taking money? If not, I can buy some stuff. What is most needed?

Note that the response has been overwhelming and they are now just taking NEW items.

Also, Sunday will be a short and organized day and they will not be taking donations.
