Outage
By Marjorie Stuckle
Received an alert today.
Outage. No internet, no TV, no wifi, no Alexa.
I am rejoicing!
Freedom to be detached from devices
Reminds me of the blackout so many years ago.
No subway service.
I rushed to my car to pick up friends from work.
Chirping Chicken owner gave me all his cooked food for free
I brought it to my UWS friends.
We were like adolescents.
At a pajama party.
Now, decades later, I turn to practice the piano
A different joy.
A wondrous quiet solitude.
Appreciated.
Margorie, appreciated your poem, and the enthusiasm about the unexpected fun flowing from outage. I guess it is worth remembering that those devices are tools, for us to use as we desire. We CAN ALWAYS unplug; it is totally within our control.
Wow Chirping Chicken; they make a nice moist chicken… though these days you have to take out a mortgage to acquire one…
Citarella not much better… remember back when Westside Market was selling whole rotisserie chickens for $3.99?!
It’s midnight & I’m suddenly salivating, right here in my bedroom
sigh…
Proust you got nothing on me.
Lovely poem. Thank you!
