In honor of Juneteenth, Manhattanville Market, the modern food hall on Columbia University’s West Harlem campus (3229 Broadway at 130th Street), will be offering a 25% discount to diners all day Sunday, June 19th, and Monday, June 20th at their four cafeteria-style eateries.
America’s newest federal holiday, Juneteenth celebrates the actual end of slavery in the United States, marking June 19th, 1865 “when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, [two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed] to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.” President Biden declared the day a federal holiday in June 2021.
Manhattanville Market, founded by Chef Franklin Becker (also a cookbook author and television personality,) opened in June 2021. The food hall is home to four food concepts, where customers can order from a counter and bring food to tables, and one full- service restaurant. The central eating area has floor to ceiling windows, as well as an outdoor patio option.
“I was speaking with my colleague, Chef Chris Scott and we wanted to come up with a way to give back to the community in celebration of Juneteenth,” Chef Becker said.
Shai Hummusiya serves Mediterranean and Israeli-inspired food, including hummus, falafel, chicken shawarma, and vegetarian dishes. Benny Casanova’s is a Sicilian pizzeria specializing in square pies. The Botanist, serves fresh salads and vegetable based creations. Butterfunk Biscuit Co., a joint venture between Chef Becker and Chef Chris Scott, serves an assortment of sandwiches “on a biscuit recipe passed down by over four generations.”
Oliva, the newest addition and full-service restaurant is adjacent to the market and serves Spanish tapas. Oliva is not open on Mondays and not included in the promotion.
Manhattanville Market was rated the #1 food hall in NYC by Eater NY. The Juneteenth 25% off promotion is automatic for all customers who visit the food hall this Sunday and Monday, nothing needs to be presented to receive the discount.
Juneteenth – I forgot I have the day off! Thanks for reminding me. The one thing Trump did right.
an alternate fact.
Yes! So glad he’s gone and we’re in a better place.
HA! “Better place”! Name ONE WAY!
Trump didn’t do it. Biden did, last year.
