Local Fifth Graders Turn Tears and Prayers Into Action

Cristina Wilson and Alice Craig.

Kudos to Cristina Wilson and Alice Craig, fifth graders at PS 199, at 270 West 70th Street, for turning their tears and prayers into action.

“They felt sorry for the Ukrainian refugees and prayed for peace in all countries,” wrote Cristina’s mom, a doctor. “Alice’s mom is a journalist so is editing many articles related to the war.”

Obviously good role models! Christina and Alice set up a Lemonade + Cookies stand outside their school on Friday afternoon. They raised $90, which they will send to the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation.

A similar, wonderful effort by young students was taking place late afternoon on Friday outside the P.S. 87 playground on 78th and Amsterdam.

I am so heartened by this effort that I would like to match their donation with another $90 that they can send in their name. (And I encourage others to consider doing similarly.) Please let me know how I can get that to them. Thanks!

I will match your match! If either of the parents could reach out with contact info, that would be great!

hi there, this is Cristina’s mom. I am very touched by your “match” offer, but please donate directly to any Ukrainian charity of your choosing. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your supportive words.
