Nitza’s Boutique has opened at 226 Columbus Avenue between 70th & 71st Streets, selling “one-of-kind necklaces and clothing, watches” and photos by artist Terry Frishman. It’s open on Monday-Saturday from 1-6. Thanks to June and Terry for the tips.

Venchi, a gourmet Italian chocolate shop, is opening at 198 Columbus Avenue at 69th Street, according to building permits. Venchi launched in Turin in early 1878. Thanks to Upper West Sider for the tip.

Covacha, a new Mexican restaurant, has fully opened at 368 Columbus Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets (it had been in soft-opening mode for a while). It replaced 25-year-old Mexican favorite Cafe Frida and specializes in the flavors of Western Mexico.

Nailology Spa is now open in the former space of another nail salon at Broadway and 85th Street. Thanks to UWS SOS for the tip.

Gopuff, a food and alcohol delivery service, is opening on the east side of Broadway and 103rd street. Gopuff, which also delivers some consumer goods like beauty products, has locations all over the country, and is valued at $8.9 billion.

A coffee shop called Fillup Coffee filed a permit to open at 2486 Broadway between 92nd and 93rd. The opening has been delayed by long delivery times for items and “NYC bureaucracy,” according to owner and manager Sonny Liu. But Liu expects to be open sometime next August. Thanks to Upper West Sider for the tip.

The new GoPuff rapid food delivery service will basically be across the street from the new Gorillas rapid food delivery service. I can’t see both of them surviving for more than a year. Yes, the neighborhood has plenty of Columbia students and families who will occasionally use their services, but it feels like overkill to have both here.

Hopefully these “rapid” delivery services will pay their delivery employees a fair wage, allow them to use the bathroom, and remind them to obey all traffic laws regarding speed, one-way streets and stopping at red lights. Those behaviors are unfortunately usually in conflict with trying to be “rapid.”

“GoPuff”? Something tells me they’ll be delivering more than food and drink in the not-to-distant future. 😁

Come on now. Puff is just the name of the boy’s magical dragon, not what you’re thinking.

Oh yes, I remember that magical dragon. Oh wait, on second thought, I don’t remember much of anything.

If Cilantro is still open then people must be desperate for Mexican food in that area. Good luck Covacha.

So sad to see Cafe Frida gone. Was a staple of ours that we frequented.

I believe Covacha is owned and operated by the same woman – it is a really nice and similar replacement!

I do not understand how either of these food delivery services will survive. Especially as their names have zero to do with what they provide.
