A 41-year-old woman was stabbed in the upper right shoulder while standing at a MetroCard kiosk inside the 72nd and Broadway subway station on Thursday afternoon at 12:02 p.m., NYPD officials said. Medics transported her to Roosevelt Hospital [Mount Sinai West] and she is expected to survive.
According to police, a man who had been riding a northbound train stabbed the woman with “a long knife” as he departed the station, seemingly at random. There was no precipitating altercation between the parties.
Police describe the suspect as a Black male, 5′ 10″, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. The description also mentioned his wearing 3/4 length pants or long shorts. He fled eastbound on 73rd Street and is still at large as of this writing.
NYPD may be issuing photos and/or video of the suspect and we will update this post if we receive further information.
