Name: Arnie
Age: 3 years old.
Breed: I’m a Pug and Miniature Pinscher mix which is what they call a Carlin Pinscher.
Profile/history: My dads were very interested in getting a dog and they had been fostering for a while when a friend told them about me. I was originally adopted from Missouri to a family in NYC, but they didn’t want me anymore. Luckily, my dads were there to adopt me at just the right time. I think it’s common for people to get excited about rescuing a pup without first considering what a significant and life-changing responsibility dog ownership can be. I’m crazy about my dads though and they’re devoted to me, so I’m lucky that it all worked out in the end.
Daily routine: I go to the park every day, rain or shine. I also enjoy walking in loops around the neighborhood and popping my head into local businesses. In the summers, I love to go visit my grandmother in New Jersey and go swimming at Union Beach. First I’ll jump on my beach float and then take a dip in the water. On spring and summer weekends in the city, the three of us will pack a bottle of wine and a picnic basket and spend an afternoon soaking up the sun and relaxing in Central Park. A bottle of rosé paired with a nice camembert or brie and a fresh baguette makes for a lovely afternoon snack.
Loves: Sniffing things! It’s how I stay on top of the local news.
Does not love: Dog fights. In fact, I make it my business to break up dog fights at the local dog runs. I’ll sit on my Dad’s lap surveying the crowd and when I see a scuffle break out, I rush over and tell everyone to “knock it off.” Cooler heads must prevail.
Favorite store/business on UWS: There’s a bodega on West 72nd near Broadway that I like to visit because they have a cat working there and we’ll greet each other.
Favorite treat: Popcorn!
Favorite park spot: Any spot in the park is good, as long as I’m seated on someone’s lap.
What are some of your favorite restaurants on the UWS? My Dads had one of their first dates at Regional Restaurant, so it’s a special place for us. Their cacio e pepe is to die for! Sometimes we’ll hang out at Lily’s Cocktail and Wine Bar and I’ll say hello to people while my parents enjoy a Manhattan or two. But I think my favorite place to eat is at home. My Dads cook frequently and they’ll always make me a small portion of whatever they’re having. Sometimes it’s meatballs or a little helping of pasta. Could West Side Rag clarify the legality of having open bottles of alcohol in Central Park? I believe it is illegal – though selective enforcement may be a factor in who knows this
Continues to my favorite feature! Thank you for bringing this to us!
Watch out, Arnie, you don’t want to get your dads busted for open container!
I love this column. Arnie’s a charmer.
“Loves: Sniffing things! It’s how I stay on top of the local news.” Priceless! And so true!
Arnie is so adorable!
