Help An Older Neighbor Get Connected! Make It Your New Year’s Resolution To Volunteer With DOROT

Help your older neighbors increase their independence and social connections through technology!

DOROT’s One-to-One Tech Coaching program matches friendly and patient volunteers with older adults eager to use their smartphones to stay socially connected and access the resources they need for independent aging in our increasingly digital world.  Teach basic smartphone apps and skills such as texting, email, using maps for navigation and communicating through WhatsApp or Facetime.

Tech expertise is not required! But, volunteers should be comfortable with smart phones and enjoy sharing their skills with late tech adopters.  DOROT provides training and a detailed teaching guide.  Volunteers commit to a minimum of 8 weekly visits to an older adult who lives in Manhattan. If you are interested, visit DOROT’s website to sign up a volunteer orientation on January 8th or 21st at https://dorotusa.org/orientationregistration. For more information, or if you are an older adult (over age 65) and are interested in getting help with your smartphone, give us a call at 917-441-3706.

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
