The AMC Loews at 1998 Broadway (68th) is hosting a special screening of Book Smart, a new film directed by Olivia Wilde, on Monday night at 7.
Here’s the description: “On the eve of their graduation, two overachieving high school seniors realize that they should have worked less and played more. Determined not to fall short of their peers, the girls try to cram four years of fun into one night.”
The High School experience changed dramatically in just 2 generations. This movie wouldn’t been conceivable for the generation attending high school in the Sixties.
Then competition and overachievement came in to the picture.
dannyboy, It wouldn’t have worked in the 1940’s and 50’s
either.
This is why you are MANHATTAN mark. The best!
When schools start accepting kids based on how nicely they play (& not their grades) let me know. Like, who wouldn’t want to play more??? Btw, when ‘playing’ doesn’t include having the kids’ hands magnetically attached to their phones then I’ll call it true ‘play’. I freely admit that this comment is based on the concept rather than the aforementioned film. Just saying.
