May 5th Reunification Documentary Film Screening and Q&A with Director Alvin Tsang

In celebration of Asian American Heritage Month, DOROT welcomes acclaimed Director Alvin Tsang for a screening of his documentary film, Reunification. Filmed over a 17-year period, this award-winning film gives an insider view on the contemporary Asian American immigrant experience through deeply personal filmmaking.

Director Alvin Tsang reflects on his family’s migration from Hong Kong to Los Angeles in the early 1980s – fraught with betrayal from his parents’ divorce, economic strife and communication meltdown between parents and children.

This poetic exploration moves moodily across different channels and modes, bending into labor histories and Hong Kong’s colonial trajectories. Tsang turns the camera on his own family, cautiously prodding for answers, but fully acknowledging that the only closure he can get will be from deciding for himself how to move on.

Join us for a screening of this incredible film on Sunday, May 5th from 1:00 – 3:00pm. There will be a Q&A with Director Alvin Tsang immediately following the film.

Light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited – please reserve your spot at dorotprograms@dorotusa.org or 917-441-3745.

Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
