Openings & Closings: Joe Coffee, Make My Cake, Lilly’s, Raenu Thai

Joe Coffee opened its latest new location at 271 Amsterdam Avenue between 72nd & 73rd Streets on Sunday. “This is the first location to serve Joe’s nitro cold brew, as well, which is a kegged-cold brew coffee that will be available before the end of the month,” the company tells us. Joe Amsterdam will be open from 7am – 7pm Mon-Fri, and 7am – 6pm Sat-Sun. Thanks to Gretchen for the photo.

Make My Cake opened over East weekend at 795 Columbus Avenue at 98th street. The bakery, which moved from Harlem (it still has a location at 139th), replaces Crumbs at that location. Thanks to Sally for the photo.

A new cocktail and wine bar called Lilly’s opened on 72nd St just East of Columbus in the former home of Riposo 72. “The menu looks basically the same with a few additional and/or tweaks,” says Sally. “Great looking unique petite wood filled room and beautiful bar!” Beth tells us. “Soft opening now! Go See TJ bartender!” Here’s an image of the menu.

Raenu Thai has opened at 844 Amsterdam near 100th street, replacing Amster Thai. Here’s the menu. Thanks to Rob for the photo.

Douglass 99 Cents & Up store has also opened on the same block. Thanks to Rob for the photo.

The good money laundering operations have moved down to DC

You know, I read that there is drug residue on about 80% of the US currency in circulation. I assume most of it from people using bills to snort cocaine and other drugs.

Anyway, a money laundromat would be a perfect addition to the neighborhood. I say welcome.:)

I think you mean coin op laundry unless you have tons of cash that needs to be “cleaned”

Same owner. Same chef. Same staff (owners and kid). Same dull food.

Agreed – Earth Café is a bright spot in the neighborhood, very hip vibe there! Great little menu, too.

I am actually very happy to see them – theirs is my favorite coffee. But I agree that more diversity might be nice.

Agreed! I’d love to see a Gregory’s on the UWS, but Joe is definitely a favorite as well. Columbus/85th often has a line out the door, so hopefully an additional location will mean shorter wait times for all.

That was way too close to Hamster Thai for my taste. Habitrail Curry anyone?

It is quite mediocre. We were not impressed with the last “version” of this restaurant. [Its the same exact menu].

Went to Georgia’s bakery Friday morning and it was locked up with a handwritten Closed sign taped in the window. Permanently? Sad.
