On Wednesday, October 25, join DOROT for our “Life Planning Guidance for Older Adults: The Four M’s” workshop. Through an informational presentation and one-on-one appointments, this event will offer insight into medical advance directives, Medicare, Medicare D, and Medigap. DOROT is partnering with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) to provide guidance on these topics through education, information sharing, document preparation, and hands-on support free of charge.
The event consists of two sections, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. From 10:15 AM- 12:00 PM, guest speakers Tina Janssen-Spinosa, Esq. and Julia Greenberg, Esq. from NYLAG will lead a presentation on the Four M’s and allow time for Q&A.
In the afternoon, NYLAG attorneys will be available by appointment from 1:00 to 5:00 for private consultations on a range of legal topics. The attorneys are also available to assist in preparing documents including powers of attorney, statutory gift riders, SSI appointments of representative forms, and HIPAA releases. DOROT’s team of social workers will be on-hand to discuss and help prepare advance healthcare planning documents.
“We are pleased to partner with the attorneys at NYLAG to provide our community with legal expertise and life planning guidance free of charge,” says Wendy Handler, manager of DOROT’s Lasting Impressions program. “Events like these support our mission of improving the lives of older adults while giving them the tools to live independently.”
Registration is a must! Those who wish to meet privately in the afternoon with an attorney or social worker must register in advance by contacting Wendy Handler at whandler@dorotusa.org or 917-441-3724. Due to space limitations, we ask all those planning to attend the morning session also to register. This event is made possible by UJA-Federation of New York.
