A man was shot and killed at a construction site at 645 West 59th Street early Thursday morning.
After interviews with police and workers, NY1 is reporting that a construction worker who had been laid off shot his supervisor. The worker was found dead an hour later of a self-inflicted gunshot, NY1 and NBC reported.
The New York Post identified the shooter as Samuel Perry of Far Rockaway and said he had told neighbors of his plans.
“Perry, a carpenter with Local 212, opened fire on his former foreman, Christopher Sayers, around 7:10 a.m. on the 37th floor of 645 W. 59th St. on the West Side. He then fled, shooting himself dead on the fifth floor, police said.
“He’s been telling me. I was trying to talk him out of it. He got fired two days ago. It pushed him to his limits,” said Karinne Gale, 26, who lives next door to Perry in Far Rockaway.
The 44-year-old told her, “I’m going to take care of it. I’m over life. It’s time to go.”
The building is part of the luxury Waterline Square development that is now under construction next to the Hudson River.
