A fire at 640 West End Avenue at 91st Street on Tuesday afternoon brought a large FDNY response, but no one was reported injured.

Sixty firefighters responded to the fire, which was called in at 3:14. They had it under control by 4:09. There was a lot of debris in the apartment, an FDNY spokesman said, and witnesses said firefighters were tossing items out the window as they fought the blaze.

That building is always surrounded by ivy in warmer months. A reader says the “ivy” may actually be Virginia creeper.

Just watched an 11:00 p.m. TV news report which showed the mountain of hoarded stuff that firefighters threw out the windows onto the street to reduce the danger. Staggering to see.

Always worried about the the real creepy hoarders who live directly above me on 107th street.

They were also ground zero for bedbugs in the building 3years ago.

This is the building where Elaine’s boss on Seinfeld lived. He was very picking about his socks.

J. Fred Muggs, the chimp on the Today Show in the Dave Garroway era (1950s), lived there.
