WOMAN DIES AFTER JUMPING FROM 3RD FLOOR LANDING IN TIME WARNER CENTER MALL

A 54-year-old woman died early Wednesday after jumping from the 3rd floor landing inside the Shops at Columbus Circle at 59th Street, according to an NYPD spokesman. The incident occurred at 12:45 a.m.

The woman, whose name was not released, fell to the lobby floor, and was taken to Mt. Sinai West Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 1:12 a.m.

It’s not clear how the woman got into the building, as the shops generally close at 9 p.m. (though, as commenters point out, parts of the building remain open after that). Police did not have information on whether other people were around at the time.

We are awaiting more information from the Shops at Columbus Circle.

This is not the first suicide at the Time Warner Center. A schizophrenic man jumped to his death there in 2004.

If you are thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

“This is not the first suicide at the Time Warner Center.”

what explains that?

The fact that two people have committed suicide there. (Separated by more than twelve years.)

Do you see a pattern here? Perhaps it’s a conspiracy…

What I see is a site of 2 suicides and am wondering what could be done to prevent another suicide.

I expect that you are familiar with the work done at the SF Bay Bridge. Did you know that similar precautions are being taken at the GW Bridge. You can learn here: completegeorge.org

Now, I also see that you work more towards accusing others of having Conspiracy Theories. I find that less productive towards helping our community.

The building does not close at 9, as Jazz at Lincoln Center and several restaurants operate well after that hour.

Right. I routinely enter after 9pm, as Whole Foods is open until 11pm.

Sad occurrence. Hope to see some follow-up in WSR. I am wondering what is level of security in the location where it happened, knowing security guards can’t be everywhere at once….

I have a number of responses to the some of the comments on here but I am restraining myself because I do not want to take away from the sad fact that this woman chose to take her life. Please close the comments on this thread unless there is follow-up such as further news articles. Thank you.
