Fans of Danish gift and home-goods store might want to line up early this Saturday at the company’s newest location at 424 Columbus Avenue (between 80th and 81st). The store will be giving away food and tote bags, and have a drawing for a back-to-school kit.
We’re heard from many locals who are excited about this store. Here’s the Facebook post announcing the opening:
Helloj Upper West Side!

Curious? Is this like the Danish version of IKEA?
More like a cheap Container Store. Odds & ends, as well as stationary. Good for gift shopping around the holidays when you don’t want to spend $.
No, they sell low quality products that people don’t need. Ikea sells medium quality products that people do need.
I don’t understand Flying Tiger’s success. i imagine the interest will fade quickly.
Yep. Crap.
Have passed by the one on Third Avenue on the UES, was not impressed.
Cheaper and more fun. Really cheap. The store in Grammercy area is always packed with Asian tourists taking pictures of all the product.
I get the “Helloj”, but what’s up with that #‎FREE‬ link?
What are the hours?
Just came back from Denmark and they are on almost every block. I’m sorry not to have small children anymore because their stuff would be perfect for birthday party gift bags.
Flying Tiger (Airlines) was bought out by Federal Express. My brother, fyi, was a captain. How, I wonder, did Denmark choose that name?
Welcome to the neighborhood! I hope you find great success & lots of friendly customers.
Place is a few blocks north from a public school, and just across from the planetarium, both bring two natural sources of potential customers. *LOL*
Passed by there late Thursday night after a concert, and two people were busy inside getting things ready for Saturday’s opening.
Space is very “European” in an Ikea sort of way; open and airy with lots of white (walls, fixtures, shelving, etc…).
Yes, going by the window display and what could been seen plenty of tchotchkes for children, adults and home. Not exactly my tastes but can see running in for a quick gift so not to arrive empty handed.

Velkommen til nabolaget !
Tak
Flying Tiger is laid out like Ikea . . . you follow a path through the store, although thankfully it’s a lot smaller.
They have nice odds and ends charmingly displayed. It’s worth a look.
More crap we don’t need.
