August 1, 2016 Weather: Chance of rain and high of 79 degrees.

Notices:
A free outdoor showing of the Royal Tenenbaums and many more local events are on our calendar.

Tuesday is National Night Out: meet your local police officers and commanders starting at 6 p.m. The 20th precinct will be in Verdi Square at 72nd and Broadway and the 24th will be in Happy Warrior Playground on Amsterdam between 98th and 99th.

Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar will headline the Global Citizen music festival this year in Central Park on Sept. 24.

News:
A man convicted of a violent 2015 Central Park mugging was sentenced to 17 years to life. “Oscar Jiggets, 56, was convicted by a jury of mauling Marianna Milkis-Edwards, a 26-year-old freelance writer from Russia, as she sat on a park bench near W. 101st St. on July 15, 2015.”

TKTS, which offers discounted Broadway tickets in Times Square is setting up a pop-up shop at Lincoln Center. “Beginning on Tuesday and continuing for three months, TKTS will sell tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway productions from a box office inside the David Rubenstein Atrium on Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets. That box office already sells discount tickets to Lincoln Center productions.”

At a press conference, tenants of the Imperial Court on 79th Street said they want the owner to stop renting rooms to tourists. “You never know who is renting the room next to you. Nobody wants to live in a hotel, and we just want it to stop,” said one resident who is a Kindergarten teacher. The owner’s son says the court case over this issue “has been hijacked and turned into a political show.”
