The city is sponsoring a special series of free tennis clinics at the Brandeis campus at 145 West 84th street starting on Friday July 8, allowing all children from 5 to 18 years old to take lessons. And free rackets will be provided.
The clinics will occur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in July and August from 2 to 5 p.m. You don’t have to register in advance; you can simply show up at the site on the day you’d like to attend. And you don’t have to come back the next day. The program is funded by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and local Councilmember Helen Rosenthal.
Nice to see something for the kids who are stuck here for the Summer.
Lovely capture of camaraderie between cute boys who look so happy. Wish we could see photos of them and more of the kids playing tennis.
FYI: the NYJTL folks are perfectly nice but apparently Brandeis wasn’t informed that they were coming, and about 30 kids and parents waited for 45 minutes in 90 degree heat and sun on the sidewalk to discover that the Brandeis custodian would not unlock the courts. No play.
The program is free, so perhaps expectations should be low. Still, this is bad form. Apparently they had this same problem last year but somehow no one from the city, school, or program thought to ensure it didn’t happen this year.
