fire scaletta

A fire at Scaletta at 50 West 77th street Sunday afternoon drew a large FDNY response and resulted in the restaurant being shuttered temporarily. A hostess at the restaurant told our correspondent Carol Tannenhauser that it was a “small fire” that started in the kitchen and the restaurant will be closed “for the next few days.”

The fire was called in at 1:42 p.m and drew a response of 78 firefighters, who had it under control at 2:56, according to an FDNY spokesman.

Scaletta is such a wonderful neighborhood fixture. Good food and moderate prices. We should give it some extra support when it reopens.

We had a reservation for tonight! To celebrate a birthday.

I hope it wasn’t too bad and they are up and running again soon.

I love their food and the staff is so nice.

It does skew a bit old but so do I now.

Hope the damage wasn’t too bad

Glad to see these comments about Scaletta…I have yet to try it and now am encouraged to make a point of it. Looking inside, it seemed as if it would be stuffy….maybe I’ll try dinner at the bar sometime. Anyone tried Coppola’s on 79? That looks like a “tried and true” place to go for some good old Chicken Parm and a glass of vino.

Scaletta’s is a good & reliable place. I once hosted a party in their back room. Food was delicious and service was on mark. Perhaps one of the best party packages that you can find in the UWS. Place is co-owned by two brothers, one of which was a former Cosmo Soccer player from the 1980’s.

Coppola’s is a also a neighborhood gem.

I happen to really like Scaletta but be advised its old school, certainly not hip or progressive in any way and it’s a older crowd for sure. Also a bit pricey but consistently good and great service.

The owners are so nice.
It is our go-to place for multi-generational family (kids to grandparents) dinners/celebrations.
It has been around for a while. It is authentic.
