NO FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED ON 70TH STREET, POLICE SAY

Neighbors around 70th street between Riverside Boulevard and West End Avenue were startled on Tuesday morning when they saw blood on the street and on a car. We heard from a law enforcement source that a man living nearby had apparently cut himself with a sword. He was conscious and alert when police found him. Police are treating this as an attempted suicide.

One of our tipsters said she heard screaming early in the morning.

“I heard screaming but thought it might be kids (I have them and so does everyone else around here) then noticed an ambulance in front of the bus stop on West 70th.

Then around 8:20 a.m. when walking my kids to school, I noticed police and with caution tape around a blood smeared car on the North side of the street and a trail of blood on the south side of sidewalk where I had noticed the ambulance.”

(We published this in light of the concerns raised by several people who contacted us about the scene. If you are thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).)

345 West 70 Street. Then he went to 220 Riverside Blvd to ask the doorman to help him.
