Community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs allow cityfolk to buy produce and meat from nearby farmers, giving locals a steady supply of the most in-season food and supporting small farmers. Members sign up to receive a share of food at a spot close to their homes, and farmers drop off new food every week.

Any news on the produce program for seniors that Gale Brewer started and Helen Rosenthal continued last year?
More on that program here: https://helenrosenthal.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/2015-Food-Bag-FAQ.pdf
Can all seniors participate in this or do they need to be signed up with a program or senior housing?
The first delivery is on June 24th. You can check with the Goddard Riverside Community Center – they are taking sign-ups today between one and three p.m.
Residents of Lincoln Towers can participate through Project Open:

an outstanding and sensible program that lowers costs and provided health benefits while supporting family farms.
Hi! Wanted to share that I also run a CSA from several farms on the North Fork of Long Island (including my family’s farm that has been operating since the 1600s) into the city each week, including a stop on the UWS, UES, Brooklyn & Queens as well as home delivery.
We do not ask for a commitment up front, orders for bags are taken on a weekly basis. Add-ons are also available. The best part….you can specify produce you DO NOT like in your bag, that way you use what you buy!
Please contact me at grownonlongisland@gmail.com or 516-317-4207.
Thanks!
