A fleet of fire trucks showed up to the American Museum of Natural History late Friday afternoon to battle a fire on the first floor of the museum. But the blaze was extinguished by the building’s sprinklers, according to an FDNY spokesman.
No injuries were reported, and it was not clear whether anything was damaged by the fire, smoke, or water. “Looks like it was in the Hall of Northwest Coast Indians,” wrote museum staffer Christina Wallace on twitter.
The museum was shut down and evacuated, but is expected to reopen at the regular time on Saturday morning. It’s not yet clear what caused the fire.
Nothing like a mid-afternoon evacuation of the museum. Sounds like there's a fire… pic.twitter.com/BXMZoegLXC
