State officials say the bear cub found under a bush in Central Park on Monday appears to have been hit by a car — and probably not in the park itself. The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced the results after a necropsy.
How it got to the park and who took it there is another mystery that still needs to be untangled. “But apart from the bear’s age and weight — six months, 44 pounds — the cause of death was almost all anyone seemed to know, and almost all anyone was willing to say,” wrote Tatiana Schlossberg of The New York Times. The NYPD’s animal cruelty squad is investigating.
One of our commenters, Lucien Desar, guessed the cause of death correctly.
I guessed it right! I just want to go on record that I don’t own a car and haven’t driven one in over 3 years so I am innocent of any bear related fatalities.
Poor dear bear. Have the authorities asked the mayor about this? Especially after his Ground Hog’s Day experience.
Lol. Priceless comment.
Who in earth would hit a bear cub, presumably in the burbs, and then drive into the city and dump it in a highly-trafficked area of the park? Weird.
Maybe it came from Wall Street (Bear)
