Alexander Imich and his Guinness Book of World Records certificate.
Upper West Sider Alexander Imich has triumphed in the most important game of all: living.
Imich, a 111-year-old Polish immigrant who now who lives at 305 West End Avenue is the oldest man alive, as certified by the Guinness Book of World Records. (Sixty-six women were older than him as of earlier this month, according to the New York Times.)
He’s also a professor of the occult. “How long can this go on?” he told the Times. “The compensation for dying is that I will learn all the things I was not able to learn here on Earth.”
So what’s Imich’s trick?
Don’t have kids.
Be active (he was a gymnast growing up).
Don’t drink alcohol.
Eat sparingly, but enjoy chocolate ice cream.
So what is his age?!?!?!
The second sentence of article says he’s 111 years old.
How could you post this item without including his age?
I don’t understand! His age is written plain as day in second sentence of article. He’s 111 years old! Geesh!
Obviously, that was added in response to the notes.
Fixed, sorry!
Avi
He’s listed elsewhere as 111 as of Feb 4.
Mr. Imich has a remarkable life. He escaped from Poland to Russia with his wife during WW II. There he was a chemist and then captured and placed in a labor camp due to him refusing to accept Soviet citizenship. He then was freed and emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 53 (1952). His wife became a psychologist and he changed his career at the age of 63 to parapsychology. At the age of 92 he had a book published and at age 96 he founded his own research center. He is a fine example that no one is “too old” to try something new. One of the main things that allowed him to live this long is that he practices a restrictive diet and takes a lot of vitamins.
He looks very excited about the award
Shame that Broadway restaurant called “AGED” has closed.
It would have been a great place for him to have dinner.

The real secret to his long life is in # 2.
Don’t have kids – live a long and happier life.
I’m going to take his advice re: chocolate ice cream.
My grandpa who lived to 101 also ate a healthy diet and exercised a lot. Maybe there is a point to this gym craze afterall…
Here is a video link to him on video. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2621334/111-year-old-New-Yorker-Alexander-Imich-oldest-man-world-admits-no-idea-hes-alive.html
Another reason is that he has a landlord that has not tortured him into an early grave.
