Summerstage, the concert series put on by the City Arts Foundation that features concerts in Central Park and elsewhere, has released its 2014 schedule, and there are shows just about every week.
The whole shebang starts off on May 20 at 5 with a concert by The Neighbourhood, whose music is described as an “evocative combination of rock instruments with R&B and hip-hop aesthetics.”
The following weekend, there will be a concert of Brazilian music in Central Park on Saturday, June 7 at 7 p.m. Toquinho, a Brazilian singer, guitarist and composer, will be paying homage to composer Vinicius de Moraes, who co-wrote The Girl from Ipanema and other hits.
Also promising: a tribute to Pete Seeger on July 21.
The Central Park concerts are held at Rumsey Playfield, a smallish venue on the East side of the park around 69th street.
Most of the concerts are free, but some (usually the bigger-name bands) cost money. Check out the full list of Central Park concerts here, and all of the citywide concerts here.
