The new Michael J. Fox Show seems committed to showcasing the Upper West Side — more so than Seinfeld, the most Upper West Side show of them all, which actually filmed in L.A. On Monday, the crew was working inside Redeemer Church at 150 West 83rd street, Howard Freeman tells us. He took the photo above outside the church.
We’ve written about the show before, and questioned why they turned Citarella into a Kosher market. What, there weren’t enough Jewish stores on the UWS already? So far, the Michael J. Fox show does incorporate the neighborhood into the plot, but not nearly as much as Seinfeld. And obviously, it’s nowhere near as good, but that goes without saying.
Fox himself apparently lives on the Upper East Side, but co-star Betsy Brandt has made her home on the UWS. She apparently loves the breakfast burritos at AG Kitchen on Columbus between 72nd and 73rd, according to this New York Times profile. We’ve heard from tipsters who’ve seen her there.
The show airs on NBC on Thursdays at 9:30.
Does this matter…aside from the inconvenience it brings upon our neighborhood? The next thing you know, there’ll be a new Italian restaurant to raise our pulse.
Cafe Lalo and Tom’s Restaurant aren’t complaining of their fame.
Not sure if any scene shots were taken from *within* the church, but load-ins were seen inside the downstairs lobby. I’ve seen their trailers up and down 84th btw Bway and West End, and also along West End between 83rd and 85th.
Tha AGKitchen should be concerned with their health dept rating of Pending. We love the food there but won’t go there because it is not an A.
I’ve been watching reruns of Seinfeld and NOTHING is funnier. He is a comic genius!Fox doesn’t even come close!

For a number of years now I’ve suggested to our local political leaders that when a filming is being done in our neighborhood and the filming requires vehicles associated with the production to be parked on a street on which alternate side exists, that alternate side of the street parking be suspended for the time that the production has one side of the street blocked off.
I believe that the same shold hold true when Con Ed or another city contractor uses one side of the street to store their tools and equipment.
This isn’t difficult to do, it just requires them to want it done.
good idea!
