A 29-year-old man was shot in the torso at the Douglass Houses at around 10:41 p.m. on Saturday night, and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition, the NYPD told us. The shooting occurred outside 840 Columbus Avenue, one of the buildings in the project, which stretches from 100th to 104th Street. Police released no other details. Â It appears to be the first shooting in the 24th precinct this year, according to crime statistics through September 15. Over the same period last year, there had been 6 shooting victims.
As of Sunday morning, there had been no arrests in the shooting.
Was the shooting on 100th street or inside the public housing building? Irresponsible journalism like this is fearmongering and destructive to the perception of safety in out neighborhood. Shame on you.
What a ridiculous comment. The story is 100% factual (including the facts you claim were omitted) with zero interpretation on the part of the writer and no ‘fearmongering’ whatsoever. In fact, he states that this is the first shooting all year, compared with 6 last year. There are small towns with worse crime stats. Or are you worried this means there will be 5 shootings in the next 3 months?
Thanks to the Rag for the continued high quality journalism and commitment to keeping us informed about events in our neighborhood.
