FOOTLIGHTS SHOES TO CLOSE, BOYOUNG KIM TO OPEN ON COLUMBUS

August 5, 2013 | 10:25 PM

Footlights Shoes, a store on the corner of 74th street and Columbus Avenue, is closing down with a liquidation sale. The store, which sold mid-price shoes and had frequent sales, could be replaced by a restaurant — we saw a liquor license for the space a couple of months ago. A manager we spoke with at the store denied it was closing when we asked about it.

A few blocks North on Columbus, Korean designer Boyoung Kim will be opening a store at 410 Columbus Avenue (between 79th and 80th), the former location fo Berkley Girl, the Observer reported. Kim worked at Alexander Wang. Her recent collection is here. “[H]er philosophy centers on taking new approaches to classic styles-building a wardrobe of luxurious but cost-conscious pieces that can be worn year after year,” according to her website.

Are you sure it’s the former Berkley Girl store? I walked by there the other day and there was a sign saying that BOC boutique would be opening soon. The BOC Twitter account confirms this relocation:

“Our store has been moved to 410 Columbus Ave., New York and will be reopen in Mid August. Grand Opening Sale lineup!!”

The restaurant opening is Bocca di Bocco. An Italian restaurant with at least three other locations in Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea. That, from the sign that was posted a few month’s ago.

Well at least it’s not another bank and its not another shoe store (wouldn’t that have been ironic).

I’m sure a landlord’s extortionist rent increase demand was part of the decision to close this store.

I’m curious what type of restaurant would take that space. It’s really quite small for a restaurant.
