A man was shot in the leg at a playground in the Amsterdam Houses project around 63rd street late Friday night.

The circumstances behind the shooting were unclear, but the Daily News reported that witnesses saw the man fall after being shot above the knee in the playground near the basketball courts, which are in the middle of the project buildings. It was about 10:45 p.m.

“I saw him lying on the ground,” said one 17-year-old, who did not want to be identified. “He screamed, ‘Can somebody just help me!’”

The man was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. The shooter was still at large as of last night.
