News:
Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny accused of killing 2 children at 57 West 75th Street, has been indicted by a grand jury on 2 counts of first-degree murder, which carries the max sentence of life without parole (she also faces 2 charges of second-degree murder). First-degree murder charges were brought only 27 times in the state in 2011. “It is reserved for the most heinous homicides, including serial killings, the killings of judges and cops, and killings deemed cruel and wanton.” Ortega is still in the hospital. A man who took money from a “lucky bag” in an NYPD sting operation in Central Park is now suing the city for $1 million. (Huffington Post)

A bank robber knocked off a Sovereign Bank branch on Tuesday, taking $2,000. “The suspect passed a demand note to a teller in the Sovereign branch at Broadway and West 82nd Street at around 2:10 p.m. and fled with the cash.” (NY Post, middle of page)
