MARY J. BLIGE HANGS OUT AT UPPER WEST SIDE CAFES, JUST LIKE YOU AND ME

There I was on a rainy day last weekend eating carrot-ginger soup at Cafe Du Soleil on 105th Street, and who’s sitting at the table next to me? Mary J. Blige. It turns out one of the great R&B-pop singers of our lifetimes lives on the Upper West Side. Who knew? Another fun fact: she’s got Synesthesia, that condition that makes you see colors when you hear music.

After eating, she let waiters and customers take pictures with her. A class act.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
