April 25, 2012 Weather: Afternoon Showers, High of 58 Degrees.

Notices:
The city will present a wide range of changes to streets on the Upper West Side tonight at 6 p.m. at John Jay College. The plan for West 54th to 86th Street aims to make traffic flow better and make streets safer for pedestrians, among other goals. It’s up on the DOT website and we’ll be posting more on it later.

News:
The city unveiled a digital archive of more than 800,000 images of New York dating as far back as 1858. The archive is here, but has gotten so much traffic that the site has mostly been down for the past day or so. If you see any good ones of the Upper West Side, let us know! (NY Times)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
