March 12, 2012 Weather: Mostly Sunny, High of 68 Degrees.

Notices:
Our new weekly events calendar is up, with a Jerry Orbach tribute, cultural events and concerts, and a big party at the Museum of Natural History!

The A, C and E trains are undergoing the MTA’s Fastrack repair program this week: “There will be no trains at A line icon C line icon E line icon stations between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Jay St-MetroTech” from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday to Friday.

News:
Community Board 7 voted 37-0 last week to recommend approval of a new zoning proposal that will limit the size of storefronts on Columbus, Amsterdam and Broadway in an attempt to preserve the neighborhood’s character. There were a few abstentions. Opponents in the real estate and business community tried to derail the proposal, and someone apparently commissioned a push-poll to convince Upper West Siders the proposal is no good. The proposal still must be voted on by the City Council and other public bodies. (Crain’s)

Controversial restaurant Papasito on 105th got closed down by the city for being a public nuisance; then a group of restaurant owners protested the closure. (DNAinfo)
