February 15, 2012 Weather: Mostly Cloudy, High of 49 Degrees.

Notices:
Local four-year-old Rafaella Lily Kopelan suffers from a rare and incurable (so far) genetic disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa, which causes her skin to be extremely fragile so that it constantly blisters and tears. Mothers at Rafi’s school have organized a run in Riverside Park on March 11 called Rafi’s Run to raise money to find a cure. For information on how to participate and donate, click here.

A catering company called Great Performances will make and serve 125 meals for hungry people at the West Side Campaign Against Hunger today.

News:
A six-story mansion at 247 Central Park West sold last year for $22.4 million, but now the anonymous owner wants to rent it out. He’s asking for $110,000. EVERY MONTH. It has a 60-foot lap pool, an irrigated zen garden and a media room with stadium seating. Or you could spend that $110,000 to provide more than 7,000 destitute families with emergency drinking water every month and still be able to afford a perfectly nice three-bedroom apartment in the neighborhood. Your choice! (The Real Deal via Curbed)

Dr. Stuart Blankman, a 75-year-old local eye doctor, was arrested and accused of trying to slip his hand up a patient’s dress. “It’s your loss,” he allegedly told her after she rebuffed him. (NY Post)

Ken Biberaj, vice president of the Russian Tea Room, has thrown his hat in the ring in the crowded race to replace City Councilwoman Gale Brewer. (Politicker)

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
