TYPOGRAPHY ALERT: STREET SIGNS ARE A-CHANGING

The city is moving ahead with a plan to change the signs in New York to make them more readable. Supposedly, signs with a mix of lower-case and upper-case letters are easier to read than signs that are in all-caps. West Side Rag pal @Kale1919 sent us the above photo of a new street sign at Riverside Boulevard and 67th Street.

The feds recently rescinded an order that every all-caps street sign in the country be changed. But signs will have to be changed as they wear out.

Don’t you dare say “who cares.” Typography matters. A lot.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
