MORNING BULLETIN: HOW TO BOOZE IT UP LEGALLY IN CENTRAL PARK

September 16, 2011 Weather: Mostly Sunny, High of 65 Degrees.

News:
The city doesn’t like boozing it in its parks, and it’s illegal to bring liquor in. But one of the new food carts in the park, the Fatty Crab pullcart, is now holding a happy hour every day from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bethesda Fountain. That proves the old adage: the Bloomberg administration loves to tell us how to live our lives, but it isn’t so big on moralizing or policing things when it’s getting a cut. Okay, now that I’m off my soapbox…it sounds pretty fun! (Zagat)

Rain could not keep Andrea Bocelli fans from packing Central Park last night. (NBC)

The bathrooms at Lincoln Center for Fashion Week are dirty, with “unsanitary toilets, noxious smells and debris strewn about the sink and counter.” The models are offended! (DNAinfo)

Ralph Lusich, who ran a popular travel program through the American Youth Hostels and then sold books on an Upper West Side corner before taking a job with the St. Francis Thrift Store, died on Sept. 3. A memorial will be held at noon on Oct. 16 at the New York City Youth Hostel, 891 Amsterdam Ave. (West Side Spirit)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
