News:
It’s back-to-school time, and at least someone is excited — the bugs! The city is spending too little to get bed bugs out of public schools, critics charge, dooming us to another year of itching. They say the city budget line for bedbug control isn’t enough to keep up with the spread of the critters, and it allots just $67 an hour for the job, causing many companies to not even apply. Last year, 3,500 bed bug cases were reported. “I think it’s way too low,” said Councilwoman Gale Brewer, who introduced legislation that led to the creation of a bedbug task force in 2009. “I hear from people all the time who have had bedbugs and it costs them $400 per room.” (Gotham Schools)
